On 5 November (local time), at the 9th China International Import Expo in the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai, Samsung Electronics, SK (including SK hynix) and Micron set up booths side by side, yna.co.kr reported. yna.co.kryna.co.kryna.co.krOpen source ↗ None of the three announced new products. yna.co.kryna.co.kryna.co.krOpen source ↗ Attention went to SOCAMM2, a server memory module for data centers that Nvidia developed together with memory makers. yna.co.kryna.co.kryna.co.krOpen source ↗

SOCAMM2 and the memory makers' statements

Micron said its products consume less power and deliver better performance than competitors' products. yna.co.kryna.co.kryna.co.krOpen source ↗ It described the Micron 9650 SSD as the industry's first PCIe 6th-generation SSD, announced last year. yna.co.kryna.co.kryna.co.krOpen source ↗

Samsung Electronics said SOCAMM2 is a standardized technology, so optimization matters more. yna.co.kryna.co.kryna.co.krOpen source ↗ The company said it plans to release SOCAMM modules in a range of capacities, building on its server memory competitiveness and its experience in stable mass production of mobile DRAM. yna.co.kryna.co.kryna.co.krOpen source ↗ Samsung also said that, as in the case of Nvidia Vera Rubin, it can supply HBM, SOCAMM2 and server SSDs to a single platform, and that it provides memory, foundry and packaging. yna.co.kryna.co.kryna.co.krOpen source ↗

Industry observers expect SOCAMM2, together with HBM, to become one of the two pillars of memory for data center computing and to grow into a market of several billion dollars within a few years. yna.co.kryna.co.kryna.co.krOpen source ↗
