Russian researchers identify four metabolic subtypes of heart failure in 498-patient study
Analysis of 93 blood metabolites revealed distinct disease profiles that refine traditional risk and progression assessment.

Russian researchers analyzed blood plasma samples from 498 individuals to identify metabolic variations in cardiovascular pathologies, according to science.mail science.mail.ru

The specialists examined 93 metabolites and detected statistically significant variations across 25 compounds between the subject groups. Based on these biochemical profiles, the team categorized chronic heart failure into four distinct metabolic subtypes, each exhibiting specific clinical manifestations and differing prognoses.
This biochemical profiling enables more precise disease classification than traditional evaluations based solely on clinical stage and left ventricular ejection fraction. The authors noted that testing plasma metabolite levels could help clinicians assess complication risks and adjust therapeutic strategies.
