Reneurx in knee osteoarthritis: 76% of patients halve pain at six months vs 46.3% on steroids

In a 264-patient clinical study presented at the AAHKS meeting, Brixton Biosciences' Reneurx was compared with intra-articular corticosteroid injections over six months.

Comparative data on Reneurx therapy from the developer Brixton Biosciences were presented at the AAHKS Annual Meeting of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons. According to ad-hoc-news.de, which cites a healio.com report of 6 November 2026, the work by Higgs M et al. (Paper 5) compared the procedure with conventional intra-articular corticosteroid injections in knee osteoarthritis ad-hoc-news.dead-hoc-news.dead-hoc-news.deOpen source ↗. Injections directly into the affected joint have long been a common part of orthopedic practice for chronic pain in this condition.

The clinical study included 264 adults with symptomatic knee osteoarthritis. They were treated at eleven specialized centers and followed for six months. The authors focused on how lasting and pronounced the pain relief is with Reneurx compared with standard cortisone therapy.

Pain reduction thresholds

For a pain reduction of at least 30 percent, 82.2 percent of participants in the Reneurx group reached the threshold after three months, versus 63.8 percent in the corticosteroid control group. After six months the rate was 85.1 percent under Reneurx, while in the comparison group it fell to 61.3 percent.

A halving of pain (at least 50 percent) after six months was reported in 76 percent of Reneurx patients and in 46.3 percent of the corticosteroid group ad-hoc-news.dead-hoc-news.dead-hoc-news.deOpen source ↗. A reduction of 80 percent or more at six months was reached by 53.9 percent of participants under Reneurx and 26.3 percent under the standard injection.

Subgroup with BMI of 30 or higher

One aspect of the analysis concerned patients with a body mass index of at least 30. In this subgroup, Reneurx showed a responder rate 23.9 percent higher than intra-articular corticosteroid injections.

The report notes that the relieving effect of steroid preparations in everyday clinical practice often fades after a few weeks, while the study followed patients over half a year. The material does not give further details on the mechanism of Reneurx or on safety data.
