Deepdrive plans 2026 series launch of dual-rotor radial-flux motor and works with 8 of 10 top automakers
Garching-based start-up Deepdrive says its dual-rotor radial-flux motor offers up to 20% more range at lower cost. A first automaker has chosen it as a supplier.

According to ad-hoc-news.de, the Munich-area start-up Deepdrive is developing highly efficient dual-rotor radial-flux motors and generators. The company is based in Garching near Munich. Besides electric vehicles, the machines are intended for use in robots in the future. Deepdrive works with 8 of the 10 largest automakers. ad-hoc-news.de

The concept relies on reduced material use, which is meant to enable greater range and power, media reports say. According to the company, its patented dual-rotor radial-flux motor offers up to 20% more range at significantly lower cost.
Series start and customers
Deepdrive plans to start series production of the dual-rotor motor in 2026. A first automaker has already chosen the company as a supplier. Reports see broader potential for the mass market from 2030.

Andreas Viehmann, professor of drive technology at the Technical University of Darmstadt, pointed to the signal the technology sends. In his view, a German company shows that the electric motor is by no means fully invented and that innovation remains possible.
Corner module with Continental
In parallel, Deepdrive is working with the automotive supplier Continental on a combined drive and brake unit mounted directly at the wheel. The first step of the cooperation is the integration of a conventional hydraulic brake. In the long term, dry-running brake systems that need no hydraulic fluid at all are planned.
The overarching goal of the partnership is a so-called corner module. Besides the drive, it is to include chassis components such as air suspension. ad-hoc-news.de

The cooperation was initiated by co-pace, Continental's corporate venture unit. It had previously taken part in Deepdrive's Series A financing round.
The combination of a compact dual-rotor design and integrated chassis components reflects the aim of providing compact, efficient drive units for mobility and automation applications.
