Smartmedics, a Polish startup, has developed an innovative smart patch designed for remote heart rhythm monitoring. This technology allows for early detection of heart rhythm disorders, traditionally reliant on in-clinic 12-lead ECG tests. The smart patch, integrated with electrodes and a smartphone application, enables continuous monitoring of patients in their homes, providing data equivalent to hospital standards. The company has already completed a commercial evaluation from 2020 to 2022, generating over 22 mln zł in revenue through collaboration with a global partner. The first version of the device was approved for the European market, and the startup is currently in the certification process for its second version, compliant with the Medical Device Regulation (MDR). Formal documentation assessment was successfully completed in September, paving the way for substantive evaluation by the end of Q1 2027, with certification expected in early Q2 2027.

Innovative Technology

The smart patch system consists of a compact recorder, proprietary software, and a specialized patch that allows real-time data sharing with healthcare providers. This advancement is crucial as modern medicine increasingly requires tools that enhance decision-making and reduce hospitalizations. The integration of medical device data with patient history opens avenues for improved monitoring and response to health changes.

Market Potential

Smartmedics is one of two medtech projects in the portfolio of Adiuvo Investments, which holds approximately 77% of the company. The startup aims to commercialize its technology through licensing and sales, targeting the home healthcare market, projected by McKinsey to exceed 250 billion dollars. The funding for the MDR certification process is secured, and the company is in discussions with potential investors for further expansion. With 34 active patents and applications globally, Smartmedics is well-positioned to meet the growing demand for personalized healthcare solutions.
