Biograil, a Copenhagen-based biotech company, has closed a €20 million funding round, EU-Startups reports. [1] The round was backed by Verve Ventures and Megatrend Invest. HTGF, which led the company's Seed syndicate in 2019, took part through its HTGF Opportunity growth fund. In July 2025 the company announced the first close of an €8.5 million round led by Verve Ventures. [1]

## How the BIONDD capsule device works

Biograil was founded in 2019. According to the company, its proprietary BIONDD technology is meant to turn injectable pharmaceutical products into oral capsules. The device is contained in a standard-size double-zero or single-zero capsule that is easy to swallow. [1]

The capsule dissolves in the stomach and releases a device with a spring-loaded grabbing mechanism. The device attaches to the stomach wall and releases medication into the tissue for systemic distribution, the company says. [1] It uses a mechanism for delivering biologics into the stomach wall and is based on a proprietary platform manufactured by injection moulding. After the drug is delivered, the biocompostable device passes through the GI tract. [1]

## Plans before Phase 1

The company plans to use the capital for ongoing work toward Phase 1 clinical testing of BIONDD. The stated milestones are non-clinical GLP studies and establishing a GMP manufacturing process before a larger financing in 2027. [1]

CEO Karsten Lindhardt said that the round, together with non-diluting funding from partnerships, will allow Biograil to continue moving BIONDD toward Phase 1 clinical studies. He added that the technology could allow oral delivery of large-market compounds and create development opportunities for combination products that may not have been feasible or attractive as conventional injectable or oral products. [1]

Anke Cassing, Principal at HTGF, said the fund first invested in 2019 because of the potential of the oral delivery approach, and that its participation reflects continued conviction as the company prepares for clinical development. [1]

The team combines entrepreneurs with experience building biotech companies and R&D executives behind the first injection-moulded oral tablet approved by the FDA. The investor syndicate includes Megatrend Invest, Verve Ventures, High-Tech Gründerfonds, Eli Lilly and Co., Sanner Ventures, Evonik Venture Capital, Anobis GmbH and Roquette Ventures. [1]
