The Bluetooth Special Interest Group has introduced Bluetooth High Data Throughput (HDT), a flagship update planned as part of the Bluetooth Core 7.0 standard, ixbt.com reports. [1] The update raises the maximum data rate to 7.5 Mbit/s, compared with the current 2.5 Mbit/s. [1]

According to the press release, HDT will support lossless and high-resolution audio transmission. [1] The publication notes that this would allow ordinary Bluetooth headphones to support lossless audio.

As with the current 2.5 Mbit/s, the 7.5 Mbit/s figure is a maximum that most devices will not deliver, the publication says. [1] The first devices supporting Bluetooth 7.0 are expected on the market in early 2027. [1]
